BRIEF: Nationwide Insurance suing PennDOT over loose grate that caused woman to wreck
Pittsburgh Tribune-Review (PA)
Sept. 23--Nationwide Insurance is suing PennDOT after one of their customers struck a loose grate on Route 51 in Pittsburgh that caused her to wreck her car last October.
According to the complaint, Indra Gurung was driving south on Saw Mill Run BoulevardOct. 23 when her 2013 Honda Accord went over a drainage grate, which dislodged, struck the undercarriage of her vehicle and sent her out of control into a wall and tree along the side of the road. The car was totaled, but the complaint doesn't say Gurung was hurt.
Nationwide is seeking $16,748 from PennDOT, which the lawsuit says was responsible for the maintenance and inspection of the highway and the faulty grate. A hearing is scheduled in the Court of Common PleasNov. 30. No attorney for PennDOT was listed and their spokesman could not be reached.
