May 10--SULLIVAN -- A Mattoon woman will stand trial in July on charges related to a Moultrie County school bus accident Feb. 10 that injured five Teutopolis students on their way to basketball game.
Scarlett D. McKinzie, 36, has pleaded not guilty in Moultrie County Circuit Court to aggravated driving under the influence and other charges resulting from the accident on Illinois 32 at County Road 800N (Bruce-Findlay Road). McKinzie is free on bond, and a trial is set for July 31.
McKinzie, driving a minivan east, struck the northbound school bus, causing it to turn over, Moultrie County sheriff's investigators said in sworn statements. Her blood-alcohol level was 0.250 percent, and a urine test was positive for cocaine, according to the statement. The legal alcohol limit for driving in Illinois is 0.08 percent.
She was also charged with failure to reduce speed, failure to stop at an intersection and having no vehicle insurance, according to court documents.
