Jan. 02--WILMINGTON -- A police cruiser was involved in a three-car accident Friday evening, according to Wilmington police.
The cruiser and a black sedan were each heading east on Greenfield Street at 8:19 p.m. Friday and entered the street's intersection with South 16th Street facing a green light, police said in a release.
"That is when a silver SUV, which was traveling south on S. 16th St. ran the red light and collided with the black sedan, which in turn struck the police car," the release said.
Drivers and passengers in the SUV and sedan, as well as the police officer, were each treated at New Hanover Regional Medical Center after suffering minor injuries, the release said.
Jennifer Frink of Leland was charged with driving while intoxicated, running a red light, failing to register a motor vehicle and driving without insurance, said Cathryn Lindsay, WPD spokeswoman.
Police did not release the names of anyone else involved in the crash.
