BRIEF: Insurance will cover Cornwall school’s storm repair
Times Herald-Record (Middletown, NY)
May 30--CORNWALL -- Whatever it costs to fix storm damage at the Cornwall Central Middle School, it will be covered by insurance, Superintendent of Schools Neal Miller said.
A storm that hit the region May 15, the day of voting on school budgets and board seats, took part of the roof off the middle school. The damaged section of the roof was above the gym, where voting was taking place.
That allowed rain to enter the gym, causing the floor to buckle. Voting had to be moved to another part of the school, which still had power.
"We will have to replace the entire roof," Miller said. "We're also going to have to replace the gym floor."
The school board last week authorized advertising for bids for all necessary repair work. The roof will be replaced first.
"We hope to have everything done by the start of the new school year in September," Miller said.
In the meantime, gym classes for the remainder of the current school year will be held outdoors. If it's raining, classes will be held in the weight room or another auxiliary room, Miller said.
