Farmers Insurance To Offer Food Truck Policy In Illinois
Chicago Tribune (IL)
Aug. 10--Farmers Insurance will launch an insurance plan for food truck owners in Illinois starting Sept. 1.
The policy combines a business owner policy with commercial auto coverage. It allows food truck operators to get coverage for the truck alone or a truck linked with a brick-and-mortar restaurant.
Although food trucks have been popular for years, "owners are often left to work with a complex mixture of separate policies, including commercial auto, business owner and restaurant policies provided by different insurers," the company said in a statement. The city of Chicago requires food truck owners to have proof of commercial general liability insurance, with coverage of $350,000 or more.
Farmers, which is based in Woodland Hills, Calif., first rolled out the policy in Utah and New Mexico this summer. The company expects to launch similar combination policies in about two dozen states by the end of the year.
Other big insurers including Progressive, Geico and State Farm offer both business and commercial vehicle insurance, but not packaged together specifically for food trucks.
