June 02--ERIE, Pa. -- The Erie Bureau of Fire has achieved the highest possible rating for fire-protection services, which could mean savings for city residents.
Erie Mayor Joe Sinnott and Fire Chief Tony Pol announced Thursday that Erie has been upgraded to a class-one city, according to a rating from Insurance Service Office Inc.Erie had been a class-two city.
The new rating could save Erie residents money, as insurance companies can use cities' ISO ratings to establish premiums.
The rating was based upon the quality of emergency communications, the water supply system, and the fire department's equipment and training, among other factors, officials said.
