BRIEF: Drunk driver crashed into Goshen house, causing up to $25,000 in damage, police say

Oct. 28--GOSHEN -- A Goshen man was arrested after crashing into a neighbor's house and causing as much as $25,000 in damage.

Ethan Tobias, 25, was charged with operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated after he crashed into the front porch of a home on Dewey Avenue around 11 p.m. Thursday. He told police he was going too fast and missed his turn, according to information from spokeswoman Tina Kingsbury.

Tobias said he was driving westbound on Lincoln Avenue and tried to turn left onto Dewey at the the five-point intersection of Lincoln, Indiana and Dewey avenues. He lost control of his 2000 Toyota and left the roadway, striking the house at the corner.

His exact speed is unknown.

Tobias' vehicle came to rest on the front porch of the home, causing significant damage to both the house and his vehicle. Police estimated damage to be $10,000 to $25,000, though an insurance adjuster will have to determine the extent of the damage to the home.

He admitted to police that he drank four 20-ounce beers and smoked marijuana earlier in the day, according to a police accident report. Results are pending from a blood draw taken while he was being treated at Goshen Hospital for minor injuries to his lower arm.
