Attorney Jeffrey Luhrsen of Luhrsen Law Group Partners with Diversity Committee of Sarasota County Bar Association

Attorney Jeffrey Luhrsen of Luhrsen Law Group, a Sarasota-based personal injury firm, recently selected Tamara Williams, a second year law student at Thomas M. Cooley Law School, to work as a summer associate for his firm. Ms. Williams received one of the few Richard R. Garland Diversity Scholarships which provides tuition assistance recently awarded by the Diversity Committee of the Sarasota County Bar Association. The aim of the program is to foster connections between local law firms and legal employers and law students of under-represented minority backgrounds who have an interest in practicing law in Sarasota upon graduation.

Tamara's strong academic record combined with her impressive extracurricular activities proved compelling to Attorney Luhrsen. "As the first in her family to go to college, Tamara seems to pursue her interests with a zeal and determination that reaps her deserved reward and is the exact kind of enthusiasm that we seek." At Florida A&M University, she was the recipient of multiple scholarships and earned grades that repeatedly landed her on the school's Dean's List and Honor roll. As a law student, she continues to enjoy Dean's List and Honor Roll status. Beyond the classroom, she's demonstrated an ongoing commitment to giving back in an array of forums -- including tutoring youth, assisting aging veterans, and serving as an officer in her school's Florida Association of Women Lawyers chapter. According to Attorney Julie Luhrsen, "since the firm works to protect the community through education and advocacy efforts, Tamara's consistent involvement with and for her community struck the perfect chord for me and ultimately our community."
