Association for Community Affiliated Plans: Community Health Insurance Associations Urge Supreme Court to Protect the Affordable Care Act

WASHINGTON, May 13 -- The Association for Community Affiliated Plans issued the following news release:

Margaret A. Murray, Chief Executive Officer of the Association for Community Affiliated Plans (ACAP) and Ceci Connolly, President and CEO of the Alliance of Community Health Plans (ACHP), made the following statements on a joint amicus curiae brief filed by the two associations in the matter of California vs. Texas, the case seeking to invalidate the Affordable Care Act (ACA) in its entirety.

The brief notes, in part, that invalidating the ACA "would create chaos, strip health insurance from millions of Americans, and strain governmental health and welfare programs in the midst of an unprecedented public health crisis facing the nation."

"Millions of Americans rely on the Affordable Care Act for access to comprehensive health care coverage. Rolling back its protections would be catastrophic for consumers, placing even more pressure on a health care system already fighting a public health emergency. Ceci Connolly, President and CEO, Alliance of Community Health Plans:
