Alexander Gatzoulis has resigned as assistant county attorney after his weekend arrest for drunk driving in Manchester.
"When a prosecutor is arrested for any criminal offense, the public's level of trust is diminished in the prosecutor's ability to make tough judgment calls in the office and in the courtroom," the Rockingham County Attorney's Office said in a news release Monday.
"As a result, the Rockingham County Attorney's Office has a zero tolerance policy when it comes to behavior that leads to arrest."
Police said Gatzoulis, 36, of Manchester, hit a parked car with his Cadillac around 1:30 a.m. Saturday in the area of Lowell and Ashland streets.
Gatzoulis was taken into custody and charged with operating under the influence of alcohol or drugs. He is scheduled to appear in Manchester District Court on Dec. 14.
Gatzoulis ran a law office on Bay Street in Manchester specializing in estate planning, real estate and property law. He closed the office last May to take a position with the Rockingham County Attorney's office on June 5.
Gatzoulis worked as a prosecutor for the Weare Police Department from January 2014 to June 2017, according to his LinkedIn profile.
Prior to his years in Weare, Gatzoulis worked as a prosecutor for the Merrimack County Attorney's Office.
