APCIA Expands Consumer Education & Awareness Commitment

Targeted News Service (Press Releases)

CHICAGO, Illinois, Jan. 16 -- The American Property Casualty Insurance Association issued the following news release:

In recognition of the broad range of challenges facing the property casualty insurance industry in 2020 and beyond, the American Property Casualty Insurance Association (APCIA) announced the restructuring and expansion of its public affairs division.

"To fight social inflation, the industry must better demonstrate its investment in social and human capital," said David A. Sampson, president and CEO of APCIA. "We are committing new resources to telling the industry's good story. The industry is pioneering new technologies for building more resilient communities, improving the speed and efficiency of catastrophe response, and protecting motorists and pedestrians. Property casualty insurers are leading major community engagement initiatives and investing billions in the economy. The industry is dedicated to workforce and talent development, and expanding its commitment to diversity and inclusion practices."

"APCIA has welcomed three dynamic communicators and strategists to its public affairs division to focus on long-term consumer education and awareness issues, as well as setting the industry's narrative" said Jessica Hanna, APCIA's senior vice president of public affairs. "We are building upon APCIA's solid advocacy foundation and are intensifying our emphasis on consumer education and thought leadership. Growing the public affairs team underscores APCIA's commitment to protecting insurance marketplaces across the country and proactively advancing consumer reforms."

Tamra Johnson joins APCIA as assistant vice president, public affairs in Washington D.C. and leads APCIA's multimedia communications strategy, diversity and inclusion programs, and long-term consumer education and awareness initiatives on driver and workplace safety.

Prior to joining APCIA, Johnson served as a national spokesperson and public relations manager for AAA, managing media relations for the association's public affairs team and the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety. She focused on traffic safety and transportation issues, which include driver distraction, impaired driving, teen driver safety, infrastructure funding, and other public policies that affect drivers.

Stephanie Polis is an assistant vice president, public affairs for APCIA based in Washington, D.C. Polis leads strategic communications efforts on consumer education and awareness, including insurance financial literacy, economic impact, and community engagement.

Most recently, Stephanie provided public affairs, communications, and external relations consulting services to associations and organizations in a vast array of fields, providing earned media and executive relations support. Previously, she oversaw the external affairs, trustee management and thought leadership endeavors on behalf of The National Capital Area as the Regional Development Officer for the Boys & Girls Clubs of America.

Sarah Revell is assistant vice president, public affairs for APCIA. Based in Florida, Revell focuses on advocacy and communications initiatives in the state to advance consumer reforms and protect the insurance marketplace. Revell also leads strategic communications efforts to educate consumers nationwide on key issues for catastrophe preparedness and response as well as mitigation and resiliency.

Prior to joining APCIA, Revell was most recently named the Deputy Secretary of the Florida Department of State (DOS). Before being named Deputy Secretary, Revell supervised media relations and long-term communications planning and was the primary spokesperson on a variety of high-profile issues for DOS.

"APCIA has a bold strategic vision for communicating our priorities on legal defense and reform, risk-based pricing, and catastrophe preparedness and response through long-term consumer education and awareness, said Hanna. "The launch of a new function within APCIA will complement our existing advocacy communications, while bolstering our ability to tell the industry's good story on a long-term and sustained basis"

The American Property Casualty Insurance Association (APCIA) is the primary national trade association for home, auto, and business insurers. APCIA promotes and protects the viability of private competition for the benefit of consumers and insurers, with a legacy dating back 150 years. APCIA members represent all sizes, structures, and regions--protecting families, communities, and businesses in the U.S. and across the globe.
