Amica Insurance and Cambridge Mobile Telematics Launch Rhode Island’s Safest Driver Contest

Business Wire

$40,000 Up for Grabs for Rhode Island’s Safest Drivers

LINCOLN, R.I.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- To encourage safer driving in Rhode Island, and to gain insight into how telematics can influence driving behavior, Amica Insurance has partnered with Cambridge Mobile Telematics (CMT) to launch Rhode Island’s Safest Driver contest and mobile app.

Starting Jan. 28, the contest is open to all eligible Rhode Island residents, who can compete for top spots on the leaderboards and win cash prizes. The best overall and least distracted drivers will receive bi-weekly prizes of $500 and grand prizes of up to $10,000.

“Safe driving contests like this present a unique opportunity to incentivize Rhode Islanders to really focus on their driving habits, recognize areas for improvement and ultimately make the roads safer,” said Bob DiMuccio, Amica’s Chairman, President and CEO. “It’s also a fun way to compete with family and friends.”

To sign up, users download the free RI Safest Driver app from the App Store or Google Play. After registering, the app begins monitoring and scoring driving behaviors like speeding, cornering, hard braking, harsh acceleration and phone distraction.

In the app, users can invite friends and check their trends, badges, driving tips and leaderboard positions.

“We believe safe drivers are made, not born,” said Hari Balakrishnan, CMT’s co-founder and chief technology officer. “We see a great opportunity to improve road safety in Rhode Island.”

Rhode Island’s Safest Driver ends April 7.
