Amesbury, Newbury earn insurance premium credits

Aug. 24--Amesbury and Newbury recently received rebates on their workers compensation and property casualty insurance costs, thanks to an incentive program offered by their insurance provider.

Both towns are covered by the Massachusetts Interlocal Insurance Association, and earned the credits through voluntary participation in loss prevention and risk management activities throughout the year, conducted in partnership with the association, according to a press release.

Amesbury received $34,978 back on workers comp and property casualty insurance costs, which will be put toward premiums for the next fiscal year, according to the release.

In Newbury, the town received $2,864 back, which also apply to premiums for next fiscal year.

Amesbury Mayor Ken Gray thanked Shaunna Ring, the city's insurance coordinator, "for planning and executing numerous training courses throughout the year.

"These courses ranged from active shooter and Taser training with the Police Department to plow operation with the DPW. I'm grateful to Shaunna and the numerous city employees who participated in these trainings, their help in reducing costs and risks, and their commitment to keeping our community safe."

Stanley Corcoran, the association's executive vice president, commended Amesbury and Newbury for promoting safety in the workplace and lowering risk, which is the key to the rewards program.

"It's not always an easy task and takes hard work and dedication by the town administration and its employees," the said in the release. "Their commitment to safety has helped the municipality lower its own insurance costs and earn these rewards funds."

The release said the insurance association awarded more than $2.5 million of premium credits collectively to its member communities through the rewards program.
