America's Health Insurance Plans: Voters Voice Strong Satisfaction With Mental Health Support Received Through Employer-Provided Coverage

Targeted News Service (Press Releases)

WASHINGTON, May 11 (TNSRes) -- America's Health Insurance Plans issued the following news release:

Every American deserves access to both the physical and mental health support they need, and employer-provided coverage (EPC) is providing them with essential access to mental health care. A new poll conducted by Morning Consult on behalf of AHIP's Coverage@Work campaign demonstrates how voters perceive their access to mental health care through their employer-provided coverage. The vast majority who received mental health care - 88% - have been satisfied with the care they received - and more than three-quarters of those voters (77%) said it was easy to find a mental health professional that was covered.

"Health insurance providers are working every day to support Americans by helping them find the mental health support and counseling they need at a price they can afford. We are committed to working together to improve access to mental health support for every covered patient who needs it," said Matt Eyles, AHIP President and CEO.

The poll was conducted by Morning Consult from April 20-23, 2022, asking voters about their experiences with mental health support during the COVID-19 pandemic. Other findings include:

* 29% of voters with employer-provided coverage have accessed and received mental/behavioral health services since the start of the pandemic.

* The vast majority who received care - 88% - were satisfied with the care they received, while 77% said it was easy to find a mental health professional that was covered by their health plan.

* Among parents with employer-provided coverage, 36% say their child has received mental/behavioral health services since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.

* 88% said it was important for the federal government to maintain the new flexibilities that individuals received during the COVID-19 pandemic, such as telehealth coverage, including a majority of Democratic (97%), independent (86%), and Republican (81%) voters.

* 59% said they would be less likely to support their member of Congress if they backed legislation to weaken employer-provided coverage, including a bipartisan majority (62% Democratic voters, 60% independent voters, 56% Republican voters).
