America’s Health Insurance Plans Commends Administration for Continued Work to Bring Down Out-of-Control Drug Prices

WASHINGTON, Oct. 28 -- America's Health Insurance Plans issued the following statement by President and CEO Matt Eyles following the announcement by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services new proposal regarding Medicare drug prices:
"Drug prices are out of control, and we commend the Administration for its continued commitment to reduce drug prices, so that no seniors or others who rely on Medicare have to choose between paying their bills and paying for their life-saving medications.
"As branded drug prices continue to rise, more and more of every health care dollar goes to pay for prescription drugs. And too often, Big Pharma games a broken market to hold on to the monopolies that allow them to charge these high prices.
"Market-based approaches that increase competition and leverage will help improve the ability to negotiate lower prices for patients and reduce costs for taxpayers.
"We look forward to participating in the comment period to support solutions and collaboration that will drive better innovation and affordability for Americans."
