Sept. 22--ALLIANCE -- Health insurance premiums will begin costing Jeffery Talbert more out-of-pocket as the Alliance City Board of Education approved an alteration to the superintendent's contract which increases his share of the payments.
The change is effective over a three-year period, which started retroactively this past Aug. 1. With the change, Talbert is now paying 16 percent. Starting July 1, 2018, the superintendent's share rises to 17 percent. And on July 1, 2019, Talbert will start paying 18 percent of the premium.
Until the change, "I think I paid 15 percent of my cost," Talbert said.
Talbert said he agreed to increase his contribution to the health insurance premium to match the percentage being paid by teachers.
"If I didn't do that, teachers would pay more than me," Talbert said. "And I didn't want that to happen."
Talbert is serving a five-year administrative contract which took effect Aug. 1, 2016.
The Board of Education also agreed to place two classified employees on unpaid leave of absence pending investigations. One is bus driver Robin Reitz and the other is custodian Angela Rowan. Reitz's suspension took effect Aug. 21 while Rowan's began Sept. 6. Talbert declined to offer specifics as to the nature of the investigations, but did say they are separate cases.
If after the respective investigations are finished, if there is action regarding the employees' job status, it will be "something that goes before the board," Talbert said.
