AIA: Now Is the Time to Prepare for Hurricane Season

WASHINGTON, D.C. (PRWEB) May 31, 2018
The 2018 hurricane season begins tomorrow, and many experts are predicting another above-average year of storms. Rather than playing catch-up once a hurricane hits, the American Insurance Association (AIA) encourages communities to take proactive steps to protect their homes and properties ahead of time.
"The devastation left by recent storms brought light to the nation's lack of preparedness when it comes to natural catastrophes," said AIA's Tom Santos, vice president of federal affairs. "There are a number of steps people can take today to make themselves, their families, and their homes or businesses better equipped to handle whatever may come their way this hurricane season."
Preparing for Hurricane Season – What to Think About:
Among other things, consider taking steps to better prepare your property, like making sure your downspouts are clean and directed away from the house, trimming or removing damaged trees and tree limbs, securing and reinforcing your roof, as well as ensuring your sump pump is working and the battery is fully charged.
Prepare a disaster plan and practice with your family.
Maintain an up-to-date home or business inventory.
Review your home, vehicle, and/or business insurance coverage with your insurer or agent.
