After Farenthold’s Aaron Burr-style duel challenge, Sen. Susan Collins calls Farenthold “so unattractive” on hot mic

July 26--U.S. Sen. Susan Collins was caught on a hot mic responding to U.S. Rep. Blake Farenthold's Aaron Burr-style duel challenge after a Senate subcommittee hearing. In the recording, she calls him "so unattractive, it's unbelievable."

Farenthold previously went on the 1440 Keys radio show, where he pointed to "some female senators from the Northeast" as part of the reason the Senate had not done away with and replaced the Affordable Care Act. He then continued that if "it was a guy from South Texas, I might ask him to step outside and settle this Aaron Burr-style."

A male senator, who some, including The Washington Post, are reporting is Sen. Jack Reed, thinks Collins could hold her own in an old-fashioned duel.

In the recording, Collins, a Republican from Maine, is heard asking, "Did you see the one who challenged me to a duel?"

"You know why he challenged you to a duel?" said Reed, a Democrat from Rhode Island. "Because you could beat the s--- out of him."

Collins in later heard saying, "he's so unattractive, it's unbelievable," and then makes a reference to a widely circulated picture of Farenthold in ducky pajamas.

"Did you see the picture of him in his pajamas next to the bunny, Playboy bunny?" she said.

USA Today reports that the audio was originally picked up on a hot mic and posted to the Senate website Tuesday afternoon, before being removed and re-posted without the conversation. A Huffington Post producer was able to save the recording of the exchange.

The offices of Collins, Farenthold and Reed have not yet returned requests for comment.
