AdvaMed Issues Statement on Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Meeting

DA NANG, Vietnam, Nov. 23 -- The Advanced Medical Technology Association issued the following statement by President and CEO Scott Whitaker at the conclusion of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Forum Economic Leaders Meeting:

"We applaud the clear call by APEC economic leaders in the Da Nang Declaration to achieve sustainable and inclusive economic growth by heightening investment in health systems and promoting high-standard ethical business practices, especially for resource-constrained small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).

"AdvaMed fully supports results-driven actions in APEC that drive improvements in quality and access for patients across the region, such as the APEC Life Sciences Innovation Forum and Business Ethics for APEC SMEs Initiative. The innovative medical technology industry depends upon such efforts to help create a level playing field for global trade and facilitate exports. On behalf of our nearly 350 member companies, AdvaMed commends the APEC economic leaders for their commitment to these work streams.

"We also welcome the commitments made in the 2017 Joint Statement by APEC ministers, who also met last week, including implementation of the Healthy Asia-Pacific 2020 Roadmap and continued regulatory harmonization for medical products.

"AdvaMed looks forward to the APEC 2018 host year, including the 5th APEC Business Ethics for SMEs Forum, to be held in July 2018 in Tokyo, Japan."
