A convicted felon asked his girlfriend if she ‘wanted to die,’ police say

March 01--A convicted felon banned from possessing a firearm was found to have 10 firearms in his Orviston residence on Wednesday, according to state police at Rockview.

Andrew McDonald, 64, accused a woman of cheating on him after she returned from a doctor's appointment, according to police. An argument ensued and McDonald struck the woman in the shoulder before asking if she "wanted to die."

The woman observed a firearm on the bed and McDonald moved toward the weapon. The woman ran into the nearby woods and, within a few seconds, she heard a gunshot coming from the area of the residence, according to police.

During a police investigation, police discovered that McDonald is not allowed to possess a firearm due to a prior felony conviction. McDonald pleaded guilty to a case involving insurance fraud and theft by deception in Northampton County in 1999, according to court records, but there is no indication whether that felony is the issue.

McDonald was charged with 10 felony counts of prohibited possession of a firearm and misdemeanor counts of simple assault and terroristic threats and a summary count of harassment.

He was arraigned before District Judge Thomas Jordan, who set monetary bail at $75,000. McDonald did not post bail and is being held at the Centre County Correctional Facility.

His preliminary hearing is scheduled for March 7.
