July 14--The former owner of an insurance agency in Dodgeville was sentenced Friday to 18 months in federal prison for filing false loan applications .
Suzanne Gannon-Anderson, 52, of Prairie du Chien, created false applications for insurance premium loans under false names and under the names of customers who didn't apply for them. She then had insurance premium finance companies deposit proceeds into her personal operating account and used the money to pay personal expenses.
Gannon-Anderson also failed to make promised insurance premium payments for customers who had given her money to do so.
Gannon-Anderson pleaded guilty in April to one count of wire fraud.
The scheme began while Gannon-Anderson owned SGA Insurance Services in Dodgeville and operated as an independent agent.
The fraud was discovered in early 2008, after she sold her firm in May 2007 to Associated Insurance Agency of McFarland. When the scheme was discovered, Associated tried to repay lenders, brokers and clients of SGA and suffered losses in the process.
Gannon-Anderson was also ordered by U.S. District Judge William Conley to repay $259,392 to Associated Insurance.
