TWO Bahraini students have been selected for this year's British Council Chevening scholarship, it was announced yesterday.
Ebrahim Radhi and Sumaya Ali will be travelling to the UK next month to pursue their postgraduate degree, said officials.
A farewell ghabga for the scholars was held last night at the residence of British Council director Malcolm Jardine in Adliya.
Present were British Ambassador Jamie Bowden, past Chevening scholarship students and British Council and embassy officials.
"Many returning scholarship students had achieved great academic success in the UK and are already making an impact in their chosen field back in Bahrain," said Mr Jardine.
The Chevening Scholarship 2010-2011 local co-sponsors include AXA Insurance, Bapco, Bahrain British Business Forum, Bahrain National Holding and the British Embassy.
Chevening scholarships are the British government's top scholarship awards for postgraduate study. They are funded by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office and local co-sponsors and administered by the British Council.
Scholarships are offered in more than 150 countries and enable talented graduates and young professionals to become familiar with the UK and gain skills that will benefit their countries.
