Thieves hit businesses in Doerun, Moultrie [The Moultrie Observer, Ga.]

Oct. 30--MOULTRIE -- Tuesday night burglaries of businesses in Doerun and Moultrie netted thieves cigarettes, cash, a pistol and other items.

At about 1:20 a.m. someone threw a brick through a front window of the Dollar General Store in Doerun, Colquitt County Sheriff's Office Inv. Mike Murfin said.

Once inside, the thief went to the where tobacco items are kept and took cigarettes and other tobacco-related items, he said. The burglar knew what he wanted and where it was located in the store.

There is video of a person wearing a mask engaged in the break-in.

The broken window was discovered at about 4:30 when a newspaper delivery man noticed it while dropping off papers at the store, Murfin said.

Between 12:41 a.m. and 2 a.m., there was a burglary at Ponder's Seafood, 600 W. Central Ave., Moultrie Police Department reports said. Taken were cigarettes, cash, a Smith & Wesson pistol and other property with a total value of $2,162.

In other thefts:

Moultrie Police

--Juanita Albritten, Dawson, reported Tuesday the theft of misplaced property of Juanita Albritten in the 2700 block of South Main Street.

Albritten also reported the theft of a cell telephone and other belongings of Marion Gossett.

Sheriff's Office

--Dewey Lastinger, 700 block Shade Murphy Road, reported Tuesday the theft of a debit card.

Lastinger reported that he suspects that a male acquaintance took the card.

--Debra McMullen, 100 block Vinson Street, reported Monday that a male companion took her 1996 Dodge Ram Wagoneer van out of town without her permission.

McMullen reported that the man told her he took the van for work purposes and would return on Monday, but he did not.

--Moses Ruiz, 500 block Sleepy Bear Road, Norman Park, reported Tuesday the theft of two bicycles with a total value of $300.

Arrests

Moultrie Police

--Luis Sifuentes-Cordova, 26, 276 Newsome Road, was charged Tuesday with no insurance, canceled registration and improper lane change.

--Kristopher Lawrence Watson, 30, 5647 Pasadena Way, Valdosta, was charged Tuesday with battery and cruelty to children.

He was arrested after Marsha Watson of Moultrie reported that her family had been in a physical altercation at Knuck McCrary Park, 2010 Magnolia Lane.

Police listed Johnathan Eaton of Nashville as the victim in the incident.

--Anterro T. Daniels, 28, 515 N. Jones St., Doerun, was charged Wednesday with on a probation violation warrant out of Dougherty County.

Daniels was arrested after Chiquita Shorter, Moultrie, reported Wednesday that a male companion pushed her and her 10-year-old daughter.

Shorter told police that the man also took her house key and cell telephone when he left prior to the arrival of police.

An officer found the man identified as Daniels in the first block of Sunset Circle, and Daniels returned the key and telephone. Shorter did not wish to prosecute and the Daniels was issued a trespass notice to not return to her residence.

Sheriff's Office

--Jose Mesa Manuel, 20, 700 block Bonnie Tuck Road, was charged Tuesday with failure to appear.

--Lonnie Wayne Scarbor, 41, 1261 Omega-Eldorado Road, was charged Tuesday with probation violation.

Property damage

Moultrie Police

--Mallory Johnson, 500 block Oak Circle, reported Tuesday that a 1994 Mercury Grand Marquis was damaged.

The car had damage to the hood, both sides and trunk, police said.

Sheriff's Office

--Rodney Baker, 1800 block D.H. Alderman Road, Norman Park, reported that someone set fire to 275 rolls of peanut hay.

The hay was valued at $9,625.
