The University of South Carolina’s Moore School of Business Establishes New Chapter in Global Risk Management Association
COLUMBIA, S.C., Dec. 17 /PRNewswire/ -- The University of South Carolina'sDarla Moore School of Business announced today that it is establishing a chapter of the Global Association of Risk Professionals (GARP) as part of a schoolwide initiative to expand the School's platform in the growing field of risk management.
GARP, which counts more than 100,000 risk management professionals in its worldwide membership, has university chapters in 20 academic institutions in 10 countries. The association is dedicated to providing a broad range of professional development opportunities for practitioners in the risk management field. The Association reports that risk management is one of the fastest growing career options for financial professionals and college graduates.
As part of the announcement, Dr. Hong Yan, associate professor of finance at the Moore School of Business, whose research and expertise are in the areas of asset pricing, derivative securities, and investment management, has been appointed University Chapter Director.
"This is an important affiliation for the Moore School as we increasingly focus on disciplines that create the most value for society in understanding and solving today's complex financial and economic issues, " said Dr. Hildy Teegen, Moore School Dean. "Risk Management is a critical field of study for both our faculty and students and one that will be essential to developing leaders for a sustainable global society in the future."
The Moore School is known for its strong academic reputation in both risk management and insurance – ranking among the top ten in the country among business school risk management programs in U.S. News & World Report. The School also receives strong business support in the community with various benefactors providing for approximately 25 scholarships for undergraduate business students in insurance and risk management.
