Swinton Bikes Offers Reassurance Following BMW Recall
MANCHESTER, UNITED KINGDOM--(Marketwire - May 31, 2010) - Swinton Bikes has offered a reassurance to all its customers after a spate of enquiries thought to be related to recent reports of brake problems in many BMW motorcycle models.
Following news that BMW has announced a recall of up to 122,000 of its bikes worldwide, including 6,600 models in the UK, Swinton Bikes, one of the UK's leading bike insurance brokers, has issued a statement to customers to reassure them that they are still covered within their policy and that any claim following an accident related to the fault will be dealt with as usual.
Anthony Aronin, Head of Swinton Bikes, said: "If a motorcycle insurance claim was made when a vehicle recall had been announced then the insurer would be duty-bound to resolve the claim as normal. The insurer would then pursue all costs from the manufacturer."
Despite the reassurance, Swinton Bikes issued a warning that this type of problem highlights how important it is to perform regular safety checks to ensure there are no abnormalities in the function of the brakes.
Anthony Aronin added: "There is no need for people to stop riding. They should check the fluid level in the front brake reservoir and speak to a BMW dealer or mechanic if in doubt."
Swinton Bikes has offered the following advice to riders to ensure the safety of braking systems:
-- Check the soundness of all brake connections -- Check the brake hoses for any signs of cuts or abrasions -- Check front and back brake fluid reservoirs regularly -- Replace brake fluid every one to two years for optimum performance from a new sealed bottle -- Check the thickness of the brake pads -- If you are unsure how to replace brake pads ask a qualified mechanic to do it for you
