Suspected drug dealer found hiding under mobile home

Nov. 16--VANCEBORO -- Deputies flushed a suspected drug dealer from underneath a mobile home Friday evening with the aid of a police dog following a high-speed chase and manhunt that began in Pitt County.

According to Christy Wallace of the Pitt County Sheriff's Office, deputies tried to pull over a speeding vehicle about 7:15 p.m. Friday on N.C. 43 near Chicod School.

Pitt officials said 27-year-old Hiawatha Anthonio Keys of Edwards sped into Craven County and abandoned the car near Street Ferry and River roads in Vanceboro.

Keys was taken into custody about 8:40 p.m. by officers and a police dog. Pitt deputies were assisted by Craven County Sheriff's Department and the state Highway Patrol.

Keys was placed under two bonds at the Pitt County jail. He remained in jail late Saturday under a $50,000 bond for driving without a license, failure to heed lights or sirens to elude arrest, reckless driving, resisting public officer, felony flee to elude arrest with a motor vehicle.

He is under an additional $150,000 bond for an outstanding warrant out of Beaufort County for possession with intent to sell and deliver heroin and other outstanding warrants for possession of drug paraphernalia and felony conspiracy.

Wallace said Keys had no driver's license or insurance on a borrowed vehicle from Marvin Lee Hamilton, the uncle of the suspect's girlfriend. The vehicle has expired tags and is not insured.
