Sports Brief: RCC leads 50-plus hoop league [Foster’s Daily Democrat, Dover, N.H.]
Feb. 9--DOVER -- With 75 percent of the regular season complete in the Over-the-Hill (Men's 50-plus) Basketball League play, some separation is now occurring in the standings. Each week has featured a steady diet of close contests in what has proved to be a well-balanced league.
In last Wednesday's first contest, RCC Construction (7-2) maintained its hold on first place in a thrilling double overtime conquest over Wyskiel, Boc, Tillinghast & Bolduc (4-5), 76-70. Leading the way for the winning team was Mike Casimiro with 41 points, including seven successful foul shots in the second overtime. He was followed by Dan Duvall and John Ganem with 16 and 13 points. The high scorer in a losing effort was Dave Blier with 24 points.
In the second game, Seacoast Veterans (6-3) broke a second-place tie with Foreign Motors (5-4) with a 51-44 win in a tightly played defensive contest. Dave Munro led scoring for the winning team with 15 points, closely followed by Kevin Deeley with 14 points, while Peter Sweet and Dave Dugal shared scoring honors with 12 apiece for the losing team.
In the final contest, defending league champion Aflac (4-5) defeated Moe's (1-8), 53-41. Rollie Janetos and Mark Sipple led the way for the winning team with 16 points apiece, while Tom Laughton had 15 points for the losing team.
League play continues Feb. 10, 6:15 p.m., at the Butterfield Gym at the McConnell Center.
