Saint Louis Legacy Awards honor Dale Knight, Larry Katzenstein, Covenant Place

PR Newswire Association LLC

ST. LOUIS, June 4, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Two giants in the world of charitable giving and a life-changing nonprofit organization will be honored later this month at the Seventh Annual Saint Louis Legacy Awards Presentation & Reception.

Longtime Saint Louis Zoo donor Dale Knight, Thompson Coburn private client partner Larry Katzenstein, and Covenant Place will be honored Thursday, June 26, at Third Degree Glass Factory. The event is organized by YouthBridge Community Foundation, in partnership with the Saint Louis Planned Giving Council. For more information and tickets, visit www.slpgc.org.

The Saint Louis Legacy Awards recognize the crucial interaction between donor, advisor, and non-profit in creating a charitable planned gift. The annual awards presentation highlights charitable cooperation and collaboration that results in truly unique and inspirational charitable giving throughout the St. Louis region.

Donor Recognition Award
For decades Dale Knight has served the Saint Louis Zoo in nearly every possible capacity. He has contributed 7,000 volunteer hours serving as a docent, ambassador, fundraiser, tour guide and volunteer training instructor, and has led several Zoo committees. Dale and his wife Susan are annual Marlin Perkins Society members and have contributed to the Zoo's latest endeavor, The Living Promise Campaign. In 2012, the couple documented their estate plans to leave a generous seven-figure bequest to the Saint Louis Zoo Endowment Trust, a priceless gift that will help keep the Zoo forever free.

Non-Profit Organization Recognition Award
Covenant Place was established 40 years ago to provide federally-supported, affordable housing for elderly Jewish community members who were capable of living in an independent facility with supportive and caring services. These services are particularly critical in Missouri, where there are no subsidized assisted living facilities for seniors with limited means. Covenant Place now serves 450 residents across three apartment complexes. With supportive services provided by Covenant Place Foundation, the philanthropic organization associated with Covenant Place, residents are able to age in place with dignity.

Professional Advisor Recognition Award
Larry Katzenstein is an award-winning attorney at Thompson Coburn, a nationally known authority on estate planning and planned giving, and an advisor to charitable organizations both locally and nationally. A frequent speaker around the country to professional groups and charitable organizations, Larry has taught both fiduciary income tax and estate and gift tax at the Washington University School of Law. He is also the creator of Tiger Tables actuarial software, which is widely used by banks and trust companies, tax lawyers, and accountants, as well as the IRS.

Larry serves as a trustee, general counsel, and executive committee member of the Saint Louis Symphony Orchestra. He serves on the boards of the Saint Louis Zoo Association, Citizens for Modern Transit and several arts organizations, and has served in the past on the boards of the Arts & Education Council of St. Louis and as board chair of the American Civil Liberties Union of Eastern Missouri. He also served on the very first board of the St. Louis Planned Giving Council.

About YouthBridge Community Foundation
YouthBridge Community Foundation helps St. Louis area charities, especially those focused on children and youth, become stronger and more sustainable, helps donors maximize their social impact and helps professional advisors administer their clients' charitable funds.

About The Saint Louis Planned Giving Council
The Saint Louis Planned Giving Council develops new partnerships to build awareness of planned giving, monitors the state of giving and wealth in the St. Louis region, and leads comprehensive education efforts that stress the importance of "leaving a legacy."
