Research and Markets: Global Dialysis Market Report – The Updated 2011 Edition

DUBLIN--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Research and Markets (http://www.researchandmarkets.com/research/75b0eb/global_dialysis_ma) has announced the addition of the "Global Dialysis Market Report: 2011 Edition" report to their offering.

Chronic kidney disease (CKD) refers to the slow loss of kidney function over time. As per the severity of the disease, CKD can be classified into five stages, the fifth being the most severe, in which the kidneys lose nearly all their ability to function. This stage is known as End Stage Renal Disease (ESRD). Since ESRD is a progressive diseases and can never be reversed, there are only two options left for its treatment, either kidney transplantation or dialysis. Dialysis is a process for removing waste from the body, and can be done by two main methods, peritoneal dialysis (PD) or hemodialysis (HD).

The dialysis market can also be segmented into dialysis products & dialysis services market. The major dialysis products include dialyzers, hemodialysis machines, along with peritoneal dialysis products. Dialysis services refer to the treatments given by the specialized physicians and care persons to the patients.

Diabetes and high blood pressure are the two major reasons for kidney failures and the ever increasing cases of both these diseases have led to an increasing number of patients suffering from CKD and consequently end stage renal diseases. Since dialysis is a long term treatment, and is quite expensive, the increasing insurance density is likely to boost up the dialysis market. Also, due to the shortage of kidney donors, a significantly large number of ESRD patients are not able to get their kidneys transplanted and therefore have to rely only on dialysis for their lifetime. Due to all the above mentioned factors, coupled with some others, the dialysis market is likely to grow considerably in the coming years.

Presently, North America is the largest market for dialysis, followed by Asia Pacific, but in the years to come, the dialysis market is expected to be driven by emerging markets of Asia Pacific region, including China and India and therefore the share of Asia Pacific in the global dialysis market is likely to increase.

There are certain factors that impact the global dialysis market, one of the most important one is the bundled reimbursement model, which is likely to influence the market.
