BOYS WATER POLO

Menlo School-Atherton 11, Bellarmine-San Jose 10 (2OT): In a matchup of two of the top teams in their respective CCS divisions, Spencer Witte once again anchored the Menlo defense with 15 saves in an overtime victory after the team finished regulation tied at 9. Menlo struck first with two goals from senior center Nick Bisconti, who scored 5 times. Five players had steals for the Knights, with Bisconti and senior Andreas Katsis leading the team with 3 each. Katsis and junior Chris Xi both had 2 assists. The Knights get a chance to avenge their lone loss against Campolindo on Saturday. Record: MS 15-1

THURSDAY

GIRLS GOLF

Gunn-Palo Alto 200, Palo Alto 205: At Santa Teresa GC (par 36), the Titans clinched the an automatic berth into the CCS tournament by winning a third straight league title -- one in the BVAL and two in the SCVAL. The medalist was Gunn's Anna Zhou, who carded 4 birdies to offset 3 bogeys to shoot 1 under. Teammate Lydia Tsai shot 38, while Paly was led by Emily Hwang and Elise Kiya, who shot 39 and 40, respectively. The Vikings' duo of Stephanie Yu and Celia Wilner each carded 41s. Record: G 10-0 SCVAL

CROSS COUNTRY

WBAL Meet #2 (at Baylands Course in Sunnyvale, 3.1 miles): Menlo School-Atherton'sLizzie Lacy was less than 2 seconds away from beating the girls course record and Robert Miranda took third in the boys race. With the crowd rooting her on, Lacy looked unshakable as she extended her lead in entering the last mile. She finished the 3.1-mile course in 17:46.9, just shy of the mark set by Sarah Robinson set last season of 17:45.0. Niki Iyer of Harker was second in 18:19.2. The Menlo girls finished in fifth, missing two of their top runners because of injury. Miranda paced the boys, taking third, and was the top freshman in 16:36.3. Dennis Mandudzo crossed the line in 17:30.7, giving Menlo another top 20 finish at 14th. Daniel Hill of Sacred Heart Prep-ATherton won the boys' race in 16:10.27 to lead SHP to a 3-point win over Crystal Springs Uplands-Hillsborough. CSU won the girls competition, beating The King's Academy-Sunnyvale by 26 points.

WCAL Meet #2 (Polo Fields in Golden Gate Park, 3 miles): In the boys race, St. Francis-Mountain View junior Xander Olivero (5th, 15:49) along Serra-San Mateo's Matthew Herrera (6th, 15:52) and Jonathan Garcia (10th, 16:02) all cracked the top 10. The Lancers took third as a team, while the Padres were fourth. In the girls race, St. Francis sophomore Emily Skahill was the runner-up in a tigh finish, as the top 2 runners both crossed the finish at 18:46. Teammate Hannah Kim was fourth in 19:04 as the Lancers held off Mitty to win the team title 34 to 47. Notre Dame-Belmont's top runner was junior Riley McGlinchey (10th, 19:31).

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL

Menlo School-Atherton def. Castilleja-Palo Alto 25-21, 25-12, 25-15: Menlo's junior middle blocker Olivia Pellarin had 9 kills and 3 blocks. Junior middle Payton Mack had 4 kills, 7 blocks, and 2 aces. Freshman Opposite Ashley Dryer added 6 kills, while sophomore Outside hitter Dea Dressel had 4 kills, 12 digs and 3 blocks. Freshman setter Kristin Sellers had 3 aces and 8 digs. Record: MS 12-12, 5-0 WBAL

Carlmont-Belmont def. Woodside 25-20, 25-20, 29-27: In Game 3, Carlmont saved four set points -- including big kills from juniors Alex Lay and Elena Mateus -- before a kill by junior Alexis Morrow pushed the Scots ahead 27-26. A kill from Woodside's Heilani Hoeft tied things at 27, but Lay came back with a kill, then Morrow had a block to end the match. Morrow finished with 9 kills, 3 aces and 2 blocks, hitting .500 on the night. Senior Sabrina Miller had 9 kills, to go along with 2 blocks and a .400 hitting percentage. Lay finished with 8 kills, hitting .333, and junior Erin Alonso had 10 digs and 2 aces. Senior setter Lauren Tierney tallied 30 assists, 9 digs, 5 kills and a .455 hitting percentage. Record: C 14-13, 5-3 PAL Bay

Harker-San Jose def. Sacred Heart Prep-Atherton 26-24, 25-19, 25-20: SHP got 12 kills from outside hitter Cate Desler, plus 10 kills and 11 assists from setter/opposite Lilika Teu and 18 assists from Natalie Marshall. Record: SHP 15-9, 2-3 WBAL

Gunn-Palo Alto def. Monta Vista-Cupertino 25-19, 25-18, 25-22: The Titans were led by seniors Meghan Mahoney (15 kills), Jess Dinneen (9 kills) and setter Nicole Brigham serving up 29 assists.

Celia Aldrete led Castilleja with 5 goals, while Fernanda Kramer added 4 goals and Anna Yu had a hat trick. Goalie Maddy Tarr made 11 saves.

Menlo-Atherton 10, Calmont-Belmont 9: Freshman stalwart Nadia Paquin paced the Bears (5 goals, 1 assist, 3 steals), with Fiona Jackson (3 goals, 2 steals), Annabelle Paris (2 goals, 1 assist), Renee Butler (3 assists and 1 steal), and Kyra Sheeper (2 assists, 2 steals) making significant contributions.

Menlo School-Atherton 198, Notre Dame-San Jose 270: At Palo Alto Hills G&CC (par 36), Menlo's Jessie Rong and Sophie Siminoff shared medalist honors with 1-under 35s. Teammate Lauren Yang chipped in with 40, with Nicole Henderson (42) and Elizabeth Power (46) rounding out the scoring.

Sacred Heart Prep-Atherton 205, Castilleja-Palo Alto 209: In a battle of the Gators at Palo Alto Hills G&CC (par 36), Castilleja's Chloe Sales was medalist with an even-par round. But SHP pulled off the victory, with Maddy Ellison (38) and Jessica Koenig (39) paving the way. SHP's Camie Steppe and Castilleja's Cosi Layton each carded 41s.
