McClatchy-Tribune Information Services

Sept. 05--Middlesboro police have arrested a man after he allegedly attempted to traffic methamphetamine.

Donavan Cruz Pena, 37, of Middlesboro, was arrested by officer Harvey Johnson and charged with first-degree trafficking a controlled substance.

According to the arrest citation, Pena was allegedly in possession of several baggies containing what police believed to be methamphetamine. The items were found as a result of a search.

The citation states Pena was also served a probation violation warrant because he absconded parole supervision, used a controlled substance and failed to complete his VOA (Volunteers of America) program as directed. He was also served two bench warrants.

Pena was being held at the Bell County Detention Center. Johnson was assisted by Middlesboro Police Officer Josh Pratt.

In other police news, two Middlesboro women were arrested by officers from the MPD for allegedly stealing another individual's identity.

Bethany Lynn Miracle, 19, and Beverly Lynn Miracle, 50, were charged with theft of identity of another without consent and complicity theft of identity of another without consent, respectfully.

According to the citation, Bethany Miracle was witnessed shoplifting at Walmart, concealing $66.16 worth of merchandise. Police also found half a white round tablet, two white round tablets believed to be clonazepam and marijuana on her person. Bethany Miracle gave an officer the wrong last name, claiming it was Heck, and the wrong date of birth and Social Security number, according to the citation. She claimed she was a minor, stating she was born Dec. 8, 1996. It was later discovered she was lying.

The citation states Beverly Miracle, the mother of Bethany, signed a citation stating her daughter's birthday was in 1996, claiming she was a juvenile. She also claimed her daughter's last name was Heck.

Bethany Miracle was also charged with theft by unlawful taking (shoplifting), possession of a controlled substance, third-degree possession of a controlled substance, possession of marijuana and falsely reporting an incident.

Beverly Miracle was also charged with second-degree hindering prosecuting or apprehension and falsely reporting an incident.

They were being held at the detention center.

Other recent arrests include:

-- Larry F. Collett, 49, of Barbourville, theft of motor vehicle registration plate/decal, no operators/moped license, rear license not illuminated, failure to notify address change to department of transportation, failure to illuminate head lamps, no/expired registration plates, no/expired Kentucky registration receipt and failure of owner to maintain required insurance.
