Pearl River Resort and Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians Journey to a Healthier Lifestyle: Partnering for 12 Week Challenge

PR Web

Choctaw, MS (PRWEB) May 20, 2014

When Pearl River Resort undertook the task of implementing health and wellness initiatives, leaders wanted to provide a road map for healthier lifestyles to the Resort's workforce of 3,000. Healthy meal options were introduced in the Associate Dining Room (ADR), a new insurance plan allowed access to more comprehensive benefits and the resort held its first Biggest Loser Challenge. Nearly 675 associates participated in the program and 5,136 pounds were lost in the first phase. As a result of the programs' huge success, Pearl River Resort garnered national media attention from NBC's The Biggest Loser! Network producers and crew members from the show were surprise guests at the Resort's grand finale event and recognized Pearl River Resort by inviting representatives to travel to Culver City, CA, to attend a live taping of the Biggest Loser Season 15 Finale show.

On Friday, May 23, 2014, the excitement and momentum continues as the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians (MBCI) will join Pearl River Resort in its Biggest Loser 2 Challenge. The Biggest Loser 2 Challenge is a twelve-week weight loss competition that encourages associates and Tribal members to lose weight and improve their health. The contest begins with a Kick-Off Health Fair on May 23rd and will end on August 22nd. Although the PRR and the tribe are joining forces, the BL2 Challenges on each side will be separate and slightly different. Resort associates are competing in team or individual categories and have a chance to win a share of $5,550. Tribal employees and members are competing as individuals only and the top 30 "losers" will a share of their own pot of $5,550. To be successful in the challenge, participants can simply eat healthier food options, exercise and weigh in each week. The team or individual with the highest percentage of weight loss after twelve weeks will win the challenge.

"The results from our first Biggest Loser challenge last May were phenomenal. This challenge is not only helping many of us to lose weight and live a healthier lifestyle but also it has become a great team building initiative," stated Holly Gagnon, President & CEO of Pearl River Resort. "Our joint goal is to lose 5 tons in tandem with the MBCI by the end of August. I see this as a wonderful beginning and I am confident we will exceed our goals, working together and encouraging one another."

Biggest Loser 2 competitors can sign up for the challenge at the Health Fair on Friday, May 23rd from 9am to 7pm at the Arena at Golden Moon. Over 3,000 associates and tribal members are expected to attend the event, which will feature nearly 20 exhibitors armed with valuable tips and information. Also, feature free health screenings will be provided by Blue Cross Blue Shield, Choctaw Health Center, Jeff Anderson Regional Medical Center, Neshoba County General Hospital and Rush Foundation Hospital.
