Workers must have initial 40 hour HAZWOPER training before they may enter the site and at least three days of actual field experience under a trained, seasoned supervisor. Our online course meets the standard requirement of 40 hrs of initial training. However, the three days field experience requirement should be met by the student/employer or potential employer.
Meanwhile, the 24 hour HAZWOPER course is designed for workers on site only occasionally for a specific limited task and who are unlikely to be exposed over permissible exposure limits and published limits. It is also for workers regularly on site who work in areas which have been monitored and fully characterized indicating that exposures are under permissible exposure limits and published exposure limits, where respirators are not necessary, there are no health hazards or the possibility of an emergency developing.
The annual 8 hour HAZWOPER refresher course is designed for general site workers who remove hazardous waste or who are exposed or potentially exposed to hazardous substances or health hazards. The refresher course must be completed annually within 12 months of completing a 24 hr or 40 hr HAZWOPER course.
