OAI: Stay Safe and Consider Additional Coverages for Memorial Day Travel

Rancho Cucamonga, CA (PRWEB) May 27, 2011

As anyone with this next Monday off knows, this weekend is Memorial Day weekend, the unofficial beginning of summer, when many motorists will be heading onto long stretches of highway for the first of their summer road trips.

While not wanting to damper the excitement that road trips bring, Online Auto Insurance would like to remind motorists that the increased number of cars on the road can translate to increased risk, and safety should be kept in mind. Memorial Day weekend was the holiday period with the highest volume of crash-related deaths in 2009, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Motorists should also consider that with long summer road trips comes the increased possibility of a vehicle breakdown. AAA recently announced that it expects to aid an estimated 3.7 million motorists with towing assistance between Memorial Day and Labor Day. That represents a large amount of tows this summer and, if drivers don’t belong to auto clubs or have coverage for towing, a lot of money coming out of consumers’ pockets and going into towing companies’ cash drawers.

But consumers who research how much is automobile insurance to cover towing costs will find that it can end up being very cheap. A California premium analysis of 18 sample quotes run by OnlineAutoInsurance.com showed that the annual price of adding towing insurance to a policy could be between $4 and $74 a year, depending on the provider. Oklahoma regulators have said that towing-and-labor coverage in that state could cost between $1.50 and $12, although it doesn’t say whether those are six-month premiums or annual premiums.

To learn more about this and other coverage issues, readers can go to http://www.onlineautoinsurance.com/quotes/how-much-car-insurance-costs.htm where visitors will have access to informative resource pages and a quote-comparison generator that can help drivers in any state find the best rates for a policy.
