Nevada Verification Program Aims to Cut Down on Uninsured Motorists
The state of Nevada has become the latest of many states to implement a program which requires motorists to provide valid proof of automobile coverage at the time of vehicle registration. A major focus of the new initiative is to cut down on the number of uninsured motorists that occupy the roads of NV; motorists will also be required to show insurance cards at time of renewal, registration reinstatements and license plate changes.
The new requirement became effective on February 1, 2010 utilizing the NV LIVE Program (Nevada Liability Insurance Verification Electronically) which allows the Department of Motor vehicles to obtain insurance information at the time of registration and verify it instantly; beginning on March 15, 2010, the new program will allow motorists and insurers to access a web page where policy information can be updated online. Nevada Insurance Commissioner Scott Kipper stated, "NV LIVE is going to be a great tool for getting uninsured motorists off the road."
Maintaining vehicle coverage can become difficult for certain individuals especially in the current economic conditions, but it is required by law in order to operate an automobile. The Insurance Commissioner suggests that motorists read the Division of Insurance's "Nevada Consumer's Guide to Auto Insurance Rates," available online at http://doi.nv.gov/consumer.aspx to obtain important information regarding automobile coverage.
OnlineAutoInsurance.com would like to remind motorists that driving uninsured not only puts others on the road in danger, but can also come with harsh consequences to the uninsured motorist if they are caught without coverage or have an uncovered accident. With the new verification program already in use and an electronic version coming shortly, now may be a better time than any to search for cheap car insurance to avoid the risk of driving without coverage.
