NAMIC Presents Service Awards at 115th Annual Convention
SAN DIEGO, Sept. 22 -- The National Association of Mutual Insurance Companies issued the following news release:
The National Association of Mutual Insurance Companies honored four individuals with Service Awards today during the Annual Meeting of Members at the association's 115th Annual Convention. Scott Harrington, Greg Huey, Kimberly Kelley, and Peter Kinzler were all recognized for their contributions to the service of the property/casualty insurance industry.
Scott Harrington, an Alan B. Miller professor in health care management and insurance and risk management at the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania, authored one of NAMIC's most successful Issue Analysis papers. "The Financial Crisis, Systemic Risk, and the Future of Insurance Regulation" argued that the insurance industry and state insurance regulation were not responsible for the 2008 financial crisis. He gave a well-received speech at NAMIC's 2009 Annual Convention and at a NAMIC-organized congressional staff briefing in Washington.
Greg Huey, chief operating and marketing officer of Indiana Farmers Mutual Insurance Company, has been dedicated to education within the industry for 20 years. He instructed AIC and CPCU courses for the Indiana chapters from 1983 until 1998. He is a faculty member of Pathfinder and teaches agent pre-licensing and continuing education courses, and has been doing so since 1994. He was a member of the Indiana Department of Insurance Commissioner's Insurance Education Advisory Council from 1992 until 2004. And he served on NAMIC's Property Casualty Conference Personal Lines Committee from 2002 until 2006, chairing the committee for the 2004-05 year.
Kimberly Kelley, a vice president at General Reinsurance Corporation, has assisted in securing GenRe financial sponsorships for NAMIC for several years. She serves as an active member of the Management Conference Advisory and the Convention Planning committees. With her help, GenRe has become NAMIC's most generous corporate sponsor. Kelley is dedicated to education in the industry and is a speaker at industry events and is involved in NAMIC's Young Leaders Circle.
Peter Kinzler, former president of the Alexandria, Va.-based Kinzler Consulting and specialist in public policy issues related to insurance and legal reform, often helped NAMIC's causes before his recent retirement. During his career he assisted NAMIC in drafting congressional testimony, advising several NAMIC task forces, accompanying NAMIC members and staff to meet with government officials, and providing strategic advice. He also authored NAMIC's 2006 Issue Analysis paper.
