Math Center Kicks Off Speaker Series with Career Presentation

HOUSTON, Sept. 23 -- The University of Houston-Clear Lake issued the following news release:
Join the University of Houston-Clear Lake Math Center as they kick off the Science Careers Speaker Series with a lecture on becoming an actuarial scientist Sept. 24, 3:30 - 5 p.m. in the university's Student Services and Classroom Building Lecture Hall, 2700 Bay Area Blvd., Houston, 77058.
Speakers include Actuarial Professional Development Program Coordinator Colin Duke and Actuarial Professional Development Global Program Manager Alice Hammonds, both employed by AIG Insurance.
Duke and Hammonds will be on-site to discuss educational requirements, average pay scale, job satisfaction and the growing needs for professionals in the actuarial science field.
"The event is the first of what I hope is several talks that serve to encourage interest in careers in the mathematical sciences," says Math Center Director Allen Cox. "Students can learn about opportunities that they may be unaware of, and can interact and network directly with companies located in the Houston metro area."
