Manulife Financial Group appointed Alan Merten as the new chief executive officer and president director of PT Asuransi Jiwa Manulife Indonesia effective from July 2010.
Merten has more than 20 years experience in life insurance, pensions, wealth management and health insurance. He will have overall management responsibility for Manulife Indonesia's individual insurance and wealth management solutions, pensions and group insurance businesses, according to the company.
His appointment will help Manulife Indonesia remain in its leading position in the country, said Robert A. Cook, Manulife Life's Asia senior executive vice president and general manager, in a statement.
Prior to joining Manulife Indonesia, Merten was based in Hong Kong as CEO of Manulife Provident Funds Trust Co., running the company's provident fund and group insurance business.
Manulife Provident business has about 1 million customers and manages funds of about US$8 billion, noted Manulife.
