Karlen Named Manager of Davis & Elkins Bookstore

ELKINS, W.Va., Aug. 22 -- Davis & Elkins College issued the following news release:

Mike Karlen has been named manager of the Davis & Elkins College bookstore.

"I love the college environment and look forward to working with the students, faculty and staff," Karlen says. "I want to be visible to the College community and for everyone to feel confident that they can come here to get what they need. With two daughters in college, I can also relate to parents' needs."

Karlen brings to D&E experience from his career in management and sales. Most recently he was employed as sales supervisor in which he was in charge of customer sales and managed route drivers for Coca-Cola Bottling Co. Consolidated in Elkins. He held a similar position, sales center manager, at Coca-Cola's Cleveland, Tenn., facility from 1993 to 2003. He also has worked in sales at Bialek Insurance Agency - Nationwide Insurance in Elkins from 2005 to 2007, as sales manager at Wilson Quality Millwork in Elkins from 2003 to 2005, and as Elkins city clerk from 1990 to 1993.

Karlen also has a history of volunteerism within the local community, most notably with the Mountain State Forest Festival. He served as director general of the Forest Festival in 2012 and as an assistant director for seven years prior to that.

He is a 1982 graduate of Elkins High School and a 1987 graduate of Fairmont State College with a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration.

"Under Mike's leadership and with his strong community relationships, the College anticipates seeing increased participation from the D&E Bookstore at both D&E and local events. The Davis & Elkins College Bookstore is open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Hours for special events will be announced.
