Inspection/Audit Company Works to Make Insurance Business Environment Better for Everyone
Emil Moskowitz of Cal Inspection Bureau, Inc. becomes first insurance industry vendor ever to be elected to the Board of Directors of the California Insurance Wholesalers Association (CIWA)!
TARZANA, CA OCTOBER 1, 2012 - In June of this year, the President of Cal Inspection Bureau, Emil Moskowitz, was honored to become the first insurance industry vendor ever to be elected to serve as a member on the prestigious Board of Directors of the California Insurance Wholesalers Association (CIWA).
To get some more information on this special honor, we spoke with John Mundelius of Union General Insurance Services, Inc. and Past President of CIWA. "Originally CIWA was a wholesalers-driven organization that was open only to wholesalers, but we started to talk about having participation of vendors and companies that write business.
However, there was no provision in the bylaws for them to have a voice." In order to strengthen the organization, CIWA historically voted to update its bylaws to include a vendor for the first time.
"When talking about nominations," John pointed out, "we were unanimous that Emil Moskowitz of Cal Insurance Bureau, Inc. should be that person. He does so much already for the organization - not ever as self-promotion for CIB - but always (for years) for the improvement of CIWA and for all vendors as a whole."
John added that they feel very lucky to have Emil on the Board. "It was a slam-dunk and a great decision on our part."
About Emil Moskowitz
Emil started Cal Inspection Bureau in 1988. He had previously worked in the field as an inspector for about three years. Emil had always wanted to own a business, so with some help from his father, he decided to start his own inspection company. “I honestly started with just a typewriter and a phone on half of my dining table,” said Emil, “in a one bedroom apartment in Sherman Oaks, CA.” He did all of the inspections himself for about a year, growing to a territory that expanded from Bakersfield to the Mexican Border.
“The expansion of Cal Inspection Bureau accelerated, and soon we covered all of California, then Nevada, Arizona and every State west of the Mississippi, and we eventually expanded our operations to include premium audits.” Because of the loyalty of some of their best clients, Cal Inspection Bureau found themselves expanding ever further, into Texas, Florida, the Carolinas and pretty much the entire United States. “It has been a very cool journey, and (I think) a very American story,” added Emil. “I think my clients sense that this is more than a job to me.”
Emil Moskowitz, Founder and President of Cal Inspection Bureau, completed his Bachelor of Arts at U.C.L.A. before moving on to Loyola Law School where he earned a law degree. To learn more about Cal Inspection Bureau, you can find them at www.calinspect.com.
About CIWA
California Insurance Wholesalers Association (CIWA) is a California State professional organization, which promotes the role of the wholesaler in the insurance industry. It also promotes the role of insurers, which distribute their products through wholesalers, as well as the vendors which service wholesalers.
CIWA is a strong recognized legislative voice for the California Wholesale Insurance Industry. Insurance wholesalers are state-licensed businesses, which are predominantly engaged in insurance sales where there is another insurance agent-broker licensee between the wholesaler and the insurance applicant. The typical clients of wholesalers are retail insurance agents and brokers. Read more about CIWA at www.ciwa.net.
