Hospital Sisters Health System Leverages Passport for Strategic Revenue Cycle Management Solutions

Proquest LLC

Healthcare technology company Passport, a part of Experian, has announced a significant revenue cycle partnership with Springfield, Ill.-based Hospital Sisters Health System.

According to a release, Passport will deliver technology solutions and services to help HSHS manage the revenue flow in 14 hospitals and a network of affiliated facilities across Illinois and Wisconsin.

Jeff Ogletree, System Vice President of Revenue Cycle at Hospital Sisters Health System states, "We are committed to an ongoing mission to serve the community while maintaining financial viability in a rapidly changing, challenging and reformed healthcare environment. Passport's solutions will touch virtually every point of the revenue cycle, from Patient Access to the Business Office. This powerful suite of products will help our colleagues operate the revenue cycle in a much more efficient manner."

In addition, Passport noted:

HSHS is a healing ministry guided by the historic mission of the Hospital Sisters of St. Francis. Nearly 14,000 HSHS employees and more than 2,300 physicians serve a region representing millions of people. A significant part of its mission is providing benefit to communities it serves, especially to the poor, uninsured and underinsured. HSHS reported $174.2 million in community benefit last year alone.

"It is a privilege for us to earn the trust of the leadership team at HSHS," said Passport CEO Scott MacKenzie. "They are committed to delivering the highest level of care in every community they serve, and their selection is an inspiring vote of confidence in our unique capabilities and sincere approach to the partnership. We are delighted at the opportunity to support their service- oriented mission, especially on such a comprehensive scope."

Passport's solutions will help HSHS fulfill its mission of community service and vision of being a unique, high quality health system providing exceptional care through modern best practices. HSHS is working on a strategic healthcare transformation, for example, to deliver a seamless, highly integrated, efficient, technology-driven patient experience.

Passport's suite of solutions supports these and other HSHS objectives by improving staff productivity, speed and efficiency, which leads to a better overall patient experience. HSHS will use Passport eCare NEXT as the single user interface to drive an automated, error-free revenue cycle workflow across the entire organization.

-PATIENT ACCESS electronic physician orders, patient insurance eligibility verification, coverage discovery, address verification, registration quality assurance, patient responsibility estimates, prior authorizations, medical necessity validation, charity care screening and enrollment, patient collections

-CLAIMS electronic claims processing and claims management

-PATIENT ENGAGEMENT patient self-service portal and online business office, electronic statements

HSHS uses both Epic and Meditech hospital information systems in its facilities. Passport works with more than 2,500 hospitals across the U.S. and will draw on its deep expertise in both Epic and Meditech environments to seamlessly integrate the revenue cycle workflow with existing HSHS systems.

Passport will also have access to a wealth of data and will use its robust reporting capabilities, consulting and analytics services to help HSHS continually improve and meet its key objectives.

Last month, Passport was acquired by Experian and the organization will be fully integrated into its Experian Healthcare group by early 2014. This transition will be seamless for HSHS and all other Passport customers.

Hospital Sisters Health System is a Roman Catholic health care mission.
