Hiring opportunities offered [The Sun, Yuma, Ariz.]
Apr. 7--Not all is gloom and layoffs when it comes to area employment.
There are businesses that are hiring and some hiring opportunities have been scheduled.
ACT, a call center in San Luis, Ariz., will hold a job fair from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday at Yuma Private Industry Council, 3834 W. 16th St. ACT currently has 1,100 employees and is looking to hire an additional 150 to 200 people, said Patrick Goetz of YPIC.
Next week, Goodwill will host a job fair from 9 a.m. to noon April 14 at the Yuma Main Library, 2951 S. 21st Drive. A number of employers from various industries, including insurance, banking, government and health care, will be looking for potential new employees.
Among the employers expected to be at the job fair are Allstate Insurance, Hunter Employment, Wells Fargo Bank, Yuma County government, Sunset Community Health Center, Farmers Insurance, Brookline College, Job Corps, KSWT-TV (the local CBS affiliate) and Marine Corps Air Station Yuma.
Job seekers are advised to dress professionally, bring copies of their resume and be prepared to speak with recruiters looking to fill various open positions.
In addition, Safety Sam is seeking sales representatives for its call center. If interested, call 328-8315, go online to www.safetyservicescompany.com/careers or apply in person at 2995 S. Pacific Ave.
Safety Sam sells training and safety materials to help businesses in the construction and manufacturing industries maintain OSHA standards.
Also, Global Contact Services, which has a call center in Yuma at 1881 S. 4th Ave., is taking applications for more than 100 positions for its North American operations. The Yuma center can be reached at 783-0288.
And the Yuma Scorpions baseball franchise is looking for a number of staff members for the 2010 season that begins in May.
The staff members will market ticket and advertising packages and will be responsible for various areas of Scorpions operations. These areas include baseball operations, Hispanic outreach, game day and stadium operations and public/media relations. Compensation will be commission-based on paid sales.

Also, starting Monday, the Yuma Sun will be offering a special promotion to help job seekers. On JobsInYuma.com, under "Jobs Wanted," users can register to post their name and other information, like a miniresume, for $9.95.
The hope is to help connect to people to potential employers, according to Curt Drummond, Yuma Sun classifieds manager.
