Health Net Receives NCQA Multicultural Health Care Distinction for 3 Lines of Business

Health Net announced that the California commercial (HMO, POS and PPO), Medicaid and Medicare lines of business of its subsidiaries have been awarded the Multicultural Health Care Distinction by the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA).

According to a release, this national distinction recognizes organizations that lead the market in providing culturally and linguistically responsive services and work to reduce health care disparities.

Health Net is a health insurer to hold the distinction for all three lines of business at the same time.

"Everyone at Health Net is proud to become the first health insurer in the nation to receive the Multicultural Health Care Distinction for these three lines of business," said Steve Sell, president of Health Net's Western Region Health Plan. "This acknowledges our commitment to enhance efforts around health care disparities, improve the services we provide to our diverse customer populations, and develop our robust cultural and linguistic services."

Other Firsts

Besides being the first health insurer in the nation to concurrently earn the Multicultural Health Care Distinction for three of its lines of business, Health Net also was the first to receive the award in 2012 for its commercial PPO product and its Medicaid line of business.

"Cultural competency is crucial to providing high quality health care," said NCQA President Margaret E. O'Kane. "Organizations achieving the Multicultural Health Care Distinction are leaders in closing the ethnic and racial disparities gap, and NCQA commends them for their dedication."

NCQA is a private, non-profit organization dedicated to improving health care quality.
