Governor Brownback Signs Ten More Bills into Law

TOPEKA, Kan., March 20 -- Gov. Sam Brownback, R-Kan., issued the following news release:

Kansas Governor Sam Brownback recently signed ten bills sent to him by the Kansas Legislature into law. With these signings, the governor has signed a total of 22 bills into law this year.

House Bill 2459 - Exempts a person applying for a Class M (motorcycle) license from state requirements for further written and driving testing if that applicant has completed motorcycle safety training in accordance with the U.S. Department of Defense requirements.

House Bill 2484 - Requires court depositions in Kansas be taken before a person who is certified by the Kansas Supreme Court as a certified court reporter.

House Bill 2535 - Makes numerous technical amendments to reflect the changes made by 2011 Executive Reorganization Order #34 which established the Prisoner Review Board within the Kansas Department of Corrections and abolished the Kansas Parole Board.

House Bill 2569 - Extends for five years exceptions to the Kansas Open Records Act that are set to expire July 1, 2012.

Senate Bill 249 - Requires current and prospective employees of the Kansas Legislative Post Audit submit to background checks that include being fingerprinted.

Senate Bill 270 - Allows the Secretary of Revenue to release or publish certain charitable gaming information obtained in bingo licensee applications, registration, and renewals.

Senate Bill 264 - Amends the state's insurance code so life insurance companies may use trust companies to manage their investments.

Senate Bill 266 - Updates the effective date specified in current law for the risk-based capital instructions promulgated by the National Association of Insurance Commissioners to December 31, 2011.

Senate Bill 383 - Clarifies the 911 Act passed by the 2011 Legislature.

Senate Bill 406 - Amends the Kansas Storage Act to provide a reimbursement fund to assist property owners where abandon underground storage tanks are present
