EPIC Adds Erik Matson as Principal, Strategic Development
Industry veteran will focus on broadening reach and distribution of Specialty Insurance entities at California’s fastest growing brokerage
SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- EPIC (Edgewood Partners Insurance Center), a retail property, casualty and employee benefits insurance brokerage, has added Erik Matson as Principal, Strategic Development. Erik brings more than 20 years of diversified insurance underwriting, reinsurance, specialty program development, operations and financial services consulting experience to EPIC. He will be based in New Jersey and report directly to EPIC president and co-founder, John Hahn.
Erik’s strategic development responsibilities will initially center on PowerGuard Specialty Insurance Services – a Managing General Agent and Lloyd’s cover holder specializing in the design and underwriting of unique insurance and risk management solutions for wind, solar and other alternative energy companies. PowerGuard is a separate operating entity and was developed and launched by John Hahn in conjunction with PowerGuard’s managing principal, Mike McMullen and the firm’s alternative energy and specialty program divisions.
Prior to joining EPIC, Erik was most recently an executive with the world’s largest reinsurance company in its Primary Specialty Insurance organization. He was responsible for developing specialty insurance Managing General Agency (MGA) partnerships with insurance and reinsurance companies and related alternative risk entities. Erik’s responsibilities included product development, underwriting, reinsurance structures, regulatory requirements, financial management, marketing, business development and distribution strategies for key specialty programs.
Erik has been a Contributing Editor for Industry Week; delivered over 30 addresses and public speeches and been the author/co-author of more than 10 published articles. His global experience spans five continents and over 35 countries.
Erik holds a BA in Economics from Drew University and an MBA in Corporate Finance and Marketing from Monmouth University. He has completed advanced post-graduate studies at the University of Chicago and Harvard’s Graduate School of Business (Corporate Finance); Doctoral Studies at George Washington University (Business); and post-graduate studies at Rutgers University (Healthcare and Medicine).
Erik was a teaching adjunct faculty member of the Johns Hopkins Graduate School of Business and has lectured at the Kenan Graduate School of Business, University of North Carolina and the Thunderbird International School of Management.
Erik is a presently a serving Lieutenant Colonel (Operations Officer) in the United States Air Force Reserves (USAF).
