Demand for BMC Workload Automation Solution Continues Its Rapid Growth by Improving Business Service

  • More than 30 customers purchased BMC Control-M Self Service within the first 90 days of its release
  • New Control-M Self Service app extends workload service access to mobile devices

HOUSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- As business services continue to drive new requirements for IT organizations, the need for operational flexibility and service delivery remain top priorities.

Organizations such as Morneau Shepell, The City of Long Beach, Crédit Andorrá, Allianz Life Insurance company and others are turning to BMC Software’s (NASDAQ: BMC) Control-M Workload Automation Solution, to handle dynamic workload scheduling needs driven by business-critical requests – and make workload services available to business users.

Business Need for Workload Automation Growing in 2011

In a recent BMC survey about workload automation, more than 73 percent of the respondents expect their workload capacity to increase over the next 24 months. And 38 percent of the companies are servicing requests from 50 or more business users that generate hundreds of service requests monthly.

Finally, showcasing the importance of IT having workload automation aligned to business service delivery, 60 percent of the respondents identify growing business volumes as the primary reason for the growth.

Workload Automation, Simplified for Everybody

IT departments around the world have experienced the benefits BMC’s Control-M Workload Automation Solution brings to managing workload tasks in hybrid enterprise environments. But, these companies have also looked for ways to simplify the workload automation process and provide business users with the ability to request and view workload state and status on their own.

To do this, businesses are using BMC’s recently announced, Control-M Self Service solution. With Control-M Self Service, IT provides business users a service view of relevant workload status and service authorities needed to support their customers using a simple web-browser interface that eliminates the need for expert knowledge of workload automation tools.

The simplicity and necessity of Control-M Self Service is apparent in today’s demanding IT environment as more than 30 companies purchased the solution within 90 days of its launch on January 24, 2011. These companies understand that the flexibility of providing business users with easy access to their workload services not only maximizes resources and reduces IT operating costs, but it ensures that business users can respond to the needs of their customers.

Morneau Shepell, the largest Canadian-based human resource consulting and outsourcing services firm, is using BMC’s Control-M Workload Automation Solution to manage workloads and scheduled processing involved with managing pensions and health benefits for employees and employers across Canada.

The company is also implementing BMC’s Control-M Self Service solution, providing its business users with read-only access to scheduled jobs, workload requests and processes. This eliminates the need for IT to handle these service requests, reducing the number of service desk requests opened and IT resources needed.

“At Morneau Shepell, our business and the accurate administration of our customers’ pension and benefit programs is dependent upon scheduled processing and automation performing efficiently. As our clients’ employees have the ability to change their benefits and pension information, we need reliable and intelligent automated services to ensure all our records are up-to-date,” said Michael Bobbato, advisory analyst, at Morneau Shepell. “With BMC’s Control-M version 7 and Control-M Self Service solutions, we can now process the workloads more effectively and give business users access to view the status of their jobs while reducing IT costs and resources. This helps guarantee the timely and accurate administration of pensions and benefits for our customers.”

Additional customers around the world using BMC’s Control-M Workload Automation Solution, include:

  • Crédit Andorrá—Andorrá, Spain’s leading financial group providing private banking, banking for individuals and banking for companies.
  • Allianz Life Insurance Company—a leading provider of retirement solutions, including fixed and variable annuities and life insurance for individuals.

Control-M Continues Innovation: New iPad/iPhone App Available

BMC is extending the reach of Control-M Self Service to business users no matter where they are. With the new Control-M Self Service app for the iPad and iPhone, users can easily view and access workload requests wherever they may be. The Control-M Self Service app will be available from the Apple app store by early summer.

Optimizing IT Resources Through Control Automation

“One of the most pressing needs for the current day IT infrastructure is the ability to be flexible in deploying applications and systems that manage business requests,” said Milind Govekar, research vice president at Gartner. “With the ever increasing pressure to keep IT costs low, but be flexible enough to handle calls to action, many IT organizations are turning to automation tools, specifically tools that enable non-IT personnel to access workloads, to drive critical business processes and resources across a complex and dynamic IT environment.”

BMC’s Control-M Workload Automation Solution provides IT organizations with the ability and flexibility to deploy dynamic workload management for physical, virtual, and cloud environments across multiple platforms and applications such as those offered by SAP, Oracle and PeopleSoft.

BMC’s Control-M Workload Automation Solution helps reduce the cost and amount of resources devoted to fulfilling workload processing, and BMC customers have effectively:

  • Adapted and prioritized critical workloads to the IT real-time resources available with dynamic workload management.
  • Acquired the elasticity needed for physical and virtual, capacity to meet established and needed service levels and priorities with cloud extensions.
  • Satisfied audit requirements associated with changes in workload processing with robust workload lifecycle management.

“Managing schedule changes and workloads across the enterprise is crucial to business and IT success for any company,” said Bill Miller, president, Mainframe Service Management, BMC Software. “With Dynamic Workload Management, a capability that maps workloads to business priorities using policies that respond to real-time business needs, and the ability for business users to check the status of their work and request workload processing changes for business transactions with Control-M Self Service, BMC is continuing to provide customers with solutions that significantly reduce IT costs and increase business services.”
