DataGen Analytics Help Providers Evaluate Bundled Payments

DataGen, a national health care data analytics company, has signed two new contracts to provide data analytic support during the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) Bundled Payments for Care Improvement (BPCI) initiative. One contract is with the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC), which is serving as a convener for ten major academic medical centers/systems. The second is with Montefiore Medical Center, a nationally recognized academic medical center and the university hospital for Albert Einstein College of Medicine.

Part of the Affordable Care Act, BCPI is testing how bundling payments for episodes of care can result in more coordinated care and reduce costs. Traditionally, Medicare makes separate payments to providers for each of the individual services they furnish to beneficiaries for a single illness or course of treatment. Bundled payments can align incentives for providers—hospitals, post-acute care providers, physicians, and other practitioners—allowing them to work closely together across all specialties and settings. Under BCPI, organizations enter into payment arrangements that include financial and performance accountability for episodes of care.

DataGen’s BCPI360 Analytic Service provides monthly data updates and decision support in three major areas:

   •      cumulative episode calculations of payments and variances, with drill-down capabilities into variance drivers;
   •     target price reconciliation; and
   •     ad-hoc advisory and training services.
