DCCC to Offer Free Entrepreneurship Certificate Program

LEXINGTON, N.C., Sept. 8 -- Davidson County Community College issued the following news release:

Davidson County Community College'sSmall Business Center is offering a free Entrepreneurship Certificate program beginning Friday, Oct. 31.

This six-part series, "Entrepreneur Mindset Your Formula for Success," provides participants with a complete overview of the business skills needed to develop a full, applicable knowledge of the startup and business operations process. Persons who enroll in the program will experience valuable insight into developing business and marketing plans; attracting funding; securing state certification and licenses; hiring and managing personnel and understanding accounting, budgeting and taxes.

The series will be offered on the following dates:

* Change Your Mind, Change Your Future: The Mindset of an Entrepreneur

Oct. 31, from 1 to 3 p.m.

This session uncovers the three things entrepreneurs think that put them on the road to success. Carol Andrews, a recognized traditional and social media expert with more than 20 years of experience in broadcast television, will show participants how to present their ideas in 6-10 seconds to secure resources and take their dreams from idea to reality.

* Legal Compliance is "Risky" Business

Nov. 7, from 1 to 3 p.m.

This session explores the risks of starting a business. Debbie Wright, a nationally recognized risk management and financial expert, will teach participants how to manage the three major risk categories: Physical, Compliance and Financial.

* Push Thru Your Fears When Creating and Delivering Your Business Plan

Nov. 14, from 1 to 3 p.m.

This session teaches participants how to create a successful business plan. Blanca Cobb, an internationally recognized body language and nonverbal communication expert, will show participants how to convey strength and confidence through both word and body when presenting a business plan.

* Money Matters: "Show Me the Money"

Nov. 21, from 1 to 3 p.m.

This session discusses concepts that help entrepreneurs manage financial risk. Speaker Debbie Wright will lead an informative session that addresses the specific areas needed in a financial plan including revenue production, gross margin, operating model, working capital and financing.

* Success Is a Click Away: Perfecting Your Brand, Team and Marketing

Dec. 5, from 1 to 3 p.m.

This session explains how to perfect a brand, build a team around the concept and develop initial marketing strategies on a limited budget. Speaker Carol Andrews will guide participants through the world of successful brand making.

* "Soft Skills" Generate More Money than "Hard Skills"

Dec. 12, from 1 to 3 p.m.

This session will cover the soft skills needed to succeed in business. Speaker Blanca Cobb will show participants how businesses can make authentic connections with customers.

Classes will be held in the Carol F. Brinkley Building, room 128, on the Davidson Campus, 297 DCC Road in Thomasville.

"Not knowing where to begin is a common barrier that prevents countless 'would be' entrepreneurs from pursuing their dreams," says Martha Larson, director of DCCC's Small Business Center. "Our economy is closely tied to the growth and success of small businesses. The Entrepreneurship Certificate program answers the questions and concerns shared by startups and provides them with the information they need to get their businesses off the ground and in the black."

The Entrepreneurship Certificate program is free and open to the public, DCCC students and alumni. Registration is required to participate. Visit www.davidsonccc.edu/sbc and click on "Workshops and Events" to register for the series. Entrepreneurship certificates will be awarded to individuals who successfully complete all six sessions.
