Craig Marcott Announces Important Details: Guardianship for the Future

PR Web

Melville, NY (PRWEB) October 30, 2013

Special needs planning takes time. There are many steps involved, and it may be better to speak to someone with experience. Craig Marcott knows that parents often find the issue of guardianship confusing. He has years of experience helping parents with 17-A guardianship petitions and has recently offered answers to some of their more common questions.

Why is a guardianship petition important?

The day a special needs child turns 18 is the same day the parents no longer have the legal right to make medical and dental decisions for him/her. Parents who wish to continue making medical decisions for their child need to consider guardianship options as part of their special needs planning. Although Craig Marcott is not an attorney and cannot offer legal advice, he does offer parents information and assistance with the 17-A guardianship process.

How long does the process take?

The guardianship process typically takes six to eight months to complete. Craig therefore suggests that parents who need to continue to make medical and other custodial decisions for their child begin the process at least six months before their child’s eighteenth birthday in order to have a seamless transition.

A 17-A guardianship is considered to be for the life of the individual, so parents should be aware of the various options available to them and their child. Craig Marcott offers practical suggestions along with a personal and holistic approach for those parents looking for a less expensive and non-attorney alternative.
