Coverys Announces New Leadership of Board of Directors

Effective June 5, 2013, Brenda E. Richardson, M.D., assumed the chair of Medical Professional Mutual Insurance Company and its subsidiaries (“Coverys”). She is joined by Erwin A. Stuebner, Jr., M.D. as vice chair and Bruce S. Auerbach, M.D., FACEP secretary. These individuals will lead the Board of Directors which is composed of a majority of practicing or retired healthcare providers who are dedicated to serving the needs of the healthcare community.

Dr. Richardson succeeds Kenneth A. Heisler, M.D., FACS, who has led the Board since 2007. “During my tenure as chair, I was committed to ensuring the future success of the company so that it would continue to fulfill its mission to protect the people that protect our patients,” said Dr. Heisler. “I’m proud of the work this Board and this Company have done towards that end. I am confident the leadership of Drs. Richardson, Stuebner, and Auerbach will further advance that commitment of Coverys to the healthcare community, its providers and institutions.”

Dr. Richardson has had a private practice specializing in clinical nutrition in Gloucester, Massachusetts since 1987. She has been a member of the Board since 2002 serving various roles during her tenure, most recently vice chair of the Board and chair of the investment committee. Dr. Richardson obtained her medical degree from McMaster University, School of Medicine, completed her medical training at the University of Toronto, and holds a Master of Science in Nutrition from the Harvard School of Public Health. She currently serves on the Executive Committee of the Medical Staff at Lahey Health for Addison Gilbert Hospital and Beverly Hospital and is a past president of her medical staff. Dr. Richardson has been a long time member of the Massachusetts Medical Society and serves on various committees. She was formerly the president and chair of the Board of the Massachusetts Peer Review Organization and served on the Board of the American Health Quality Association. Dr. Richardson is a diplomat of the American Board of Utilization Review and Quality Assurance and was one of the first medical directors of UR/QA in the state serving at Addison Gilbert Hospital and Northeast Health Systems. She is a founding member of the AIDS Task Force and was formerly the school physician for the City of Gloucester.

Dr. Stuebner, vice chair, has over 18 years serving on the board, most recently as secretary and chair of the financial operations committee. He holds a medical degree from Northwestern University and completed his residency at University of Michigan Hospitals & Health Centers in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Dr. Stuebner is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine and retired from Williamstown Medical Associates after 32 years of practice. He currently works at the North Adams Regional Hospital and as medical director of the VNA and Hospice of Northern Berkshire.

Dr. Auerbach is a board certified emergency medicine physician who has held a leadership position at Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro, Massachusetts, since 1987. He is currently vice president, chief medical officer and medical director and previously served as vice president and chief of emergency and ambulatory services for 25 years. He obtained his medical degree from Temple University School of Medicine and completed his residency training in emergency medicine at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center. Dr. Auerbach has been a member of Coverys’ Board of Directors since 2002 representing the hospitals insured by Coverys.
